Abstract
A photoconductor for electrophotography comprises an electroconductive substrate and a photoconductive layer formed on the substrate and including a novel disazo compound as a charge generating layer. The disazo compound is represented by the following general formula: ##STR1## wherein X1 stands for one of an alkyl group, an aryl group and an aromatic heterocyclic group, each of which groups may be or not may be substituted, X.sub.2 stands for one of a hydrogen atom, a cyano group, a carbamoyl group, a carboxyl group, an ester group and an acyl group, each of X.sub.3 and X.sub.4 stands for one of a hydrogen atom, a halogen atom, a nitro group, an alkyl group and an alkoxyl group, both of last two groups may be or not may be substituted, Z stands for one of a hydrogen atom, an alkyl group, a cycloalkyl group, an alkenyl group, an aryl group and an aromatic heterocyclic group, each of which groups may be or not may be substituted and --N.dbd.N--D--N--N.dbd.N-- stands for a disazo residual group.
