Abstract

The present invention relates to an improved process for the preparation of 2-hydroxy-4-(hydroxyalkoxy)-benzophenone. More particularly the invention is directed to the oxyalkylation of 2,4-dihydroxy benzophenone, using C.sub.2 to C.sub.4 alkylene oxides in the presence of a basic catalyst and water. Such products are useful as ultraviolet light absorbers.
