Abstract
Dense tungsten ingots are prepared by hot isostatically pressing at a temperature of about 1500.degree. to about 1700.degree. C. and a pressure of about 20 to about 30 ksi for about 2 to about 3 hours a refractory container comprising a green tungsten metal compact in contact with a dopant, the tungsten metal of the compact being formed prior to contact with the dopant; the dopant being a material which is insoluble in tungsten and contains molecules having atomic radii greater than the atomic radius of tungsten by at least about 15%.
