Abstract

A plasticizer for use in the manufacture of pitch which forms a fluid at room temperature consisting essentially of a tar composed of low molecular weight and polymerized aromatic hydrocarbons having a molecular weight distribution characteristic which is bimodel. The plasticizer is formed by reacting a tar or distillate precursor with oxygen under controlled conditions of temperature and time.
