Abstract
A camera has a main camera body containing a main microprocessor, and exchangeable lens devices interchangeably mountable on the camera body and each containing an auxiliary microprocessor storing information identifying the respective exchangeable lens device and characteristics of the latter. Each exchangeable lens device includes an imaging lens assembly having elements controllable by drive motors for adjusting respective functions, and the auxiliary microprocessor controls such drive motors in response to position control signals from the main microprocessor and provides to the latter the stored identifying information and sensed position signals corresponding to the positions of the controllable elements of the respective imaging lens assembly. The main microprocessor provides the position control signals on the basis of at least the sensed position signals and condition sensing signals which correspond to the focused or other condition of an image projected by the imaging lens means onto an imaging element within the camera body.
