Abstract

An automatic laminator for laminating film on a board includes a control unit, input and output roller tables, and a control cabinet. The control unit includes a tacking system, film supply rolls, takeup rolls, lamination rolls, a cutting system and a vacuum system. The control unit features holding the board stationary between the completion of the tacking operation and the beginning of the lamination operation and the starting the lamination at substantially the same position where the tacking has been effected, thus improving the efficiency of operation and enabling a reduction in the time, pressure, and temperature required for the successful performance of tacking. This together with a simple and effective cutting system involving a cutting blade that moves only a few millimeters and cuts the film 'on the fly' enables an increase in the rate at which the boards may be laminated. Single side lamination of very thin boards is also made possible.
