Abstract

A novel and useful method for treating and/or preventing ulcer in human beings is provided which comprises administering an effective amount of a pharmaceutical composition comprising at least one of the conjugated .gamma.-oxybutenolide compounds represented by the general formula: ##STR1## wherein R.sub.1, R.sub.2, R.sub.3, R.sub.4 and R.sub.5 are the same or different and represent hydrogen atoms, alkyl groups, hydroxyl groups, alkoxy groups, nitro groups, cyano groups or halogen atoms; and optionally at least one pharmaceutically acceptable carrier.
