Abstract

Mechanical seals are imroved in wear properties, erosion, corrosion and galling resistance by forming a diffusion coating in the seal structure surface comprising an intermetallic compound of the seal structure iron, nickel or cobalt base metal and one or more of aluminum, boron, silicon and carbon.
