Abstract

A process for the preparation of catalysts, in particular for the purification of exhaust gases from internal combustion engines, is described, which makes it possible to use supports stable up to at least 1,200.degree. C. which are free of gamma-aluminium oxide and transition aluminium oxide and nevertheless have a high catalytic activity. The catalytically active noble metal as the constituent of a composite powder is attached to the support, which in addition to the noble metal contains a thermally stable metal oxide and is prepared by the spray pyrolysis process.
