Abstract
A mobile transmitter/receiver is for use in a communication system comprising a plurality of fixed transmitters/receivers located at spaced apart positions in a terrestial area, each fixed transmitter/receiver operating on one or more of a plurality of radio frequency channels. The mobile transmitter/receiver comprises: a transmitting/receiving section for transmitting information to and receiving information from the fixed transmitters/receivers; a location determining section for receiving signals from the fixed transmitters/receivers for determining the location of the mobile transmitter/receiver within the communication system; data storage for storing information relating to radio communication paths from all locations in the area to the fixed transmitters/receivers; a selecting section for determining from the location of the mobile transmitter/receiver determined by the location determining section and the information stored in the data storage a selected one of said communication paths; and a conditioning section for conditioning the transmitting/receiving section in accordance with information stored in the data storage relating to the selected communication path.
