Abstract

The invention resides in a novel photochemical process for the production of .alpha.-aryl propionic acids by the subjection of a solution in an organic solvent of the corresponding .alpha.-haloaryl alkyl ketones to irradiation with light having a wavelength of from 200 to 800 nm, preferably in the presence of a suitable acid scavenger for the neutralization of any hydrohalogen acid generated during the reaction.
