Abstract

A method for producing m-benzyltoluene with a high yield and excellent selectivity without producing undesirable heavier by-products. The method is characterized in that toluene and diphenylmethane are allowed to react at a reaction temperature in the range of 170.degree. to 400.degree. C. in the presence of a crystalline synthetic zeolite catalyst in which the molar ratio of SiO.sub.2 /Al.sub.2 O.sub.3 is 20 or higher and the openings of main pores are formed by ten-membered oxygen rings.
