Abstract

An environmentally safe method is provided for the removal and disposal of residual water soluble polymers, particularly polyethers, from aqueous waste streams, wherein a pretreated inert inorganic substrate is contacted with the waste stream and the polymer contained therein adsorbed onto the substrate. Thereafter, the polymers are removed from the substrate as CO.sub.2 and water by combustion and the substrate subjected to regenerative conditions for recycling.
