Abstract

The present invention relates to a process for the preparation of alpha alkyl amino aldehydes of formula ##STR1## in which R is alkyl or aralkyl possibly substituted, characterized in that N,O-dimethylhydroxylamine is reacted, in a basic medium, on a blocked amine ester of an amino acid of formula ##STR2## and in that the product obtained is reduced with the aid of a hydride such as the double hydride of lithium-aluminum.
