Abstract
Methine-azo compounds of the formula ##STR1## in which A is the complement to a heterocyclic 5- or 6-membered ring which has a quaternized N atom as a ring member, which can contain further hetero atoms and which can be substituted and/or fused with carbocyclic or heterocyclic rings, R is hydrogen, cyano or C.sub.2 -C.sub.3 -alkylene which is bonded to an N atom of ring A to form a 5- or 6-membered ring, B is substituted or unsubstituted phenylene or naphthylene, X.sup..crclbar. is an anion and KK is the radical of a coupling component of the benzene series, of the naphthaline series or of the heterocyclic series, with the provisos that (a) if A is the complement to a quaternized, substituted or unsubstituted pyridine, quinoline or indolenine radical, KK is not the radical of a substituted or unsubstituted phenol, sulfo-free naphthol, naphthylamine, aniline, quinoline, isoquinoline, pyrazole or indole coupling component and (b) if A is the complement to a quaternized, substituted or unsubstituted benzothiazole or pyrimidine radical, KK is not a substituted or unsubstituted phenol or aniline coupling component. These compounds can be used as dyes for dyeing or printing for example polyacrylonitrile, acid-modified polyester and in particular paper.
