Abstract

Lower resolution video signals (10) having alternating odd fields (12) and even fields (14) are stored in an odd line memory 20A and an even line 20B, respectively. An interpolator 22 interpolates adjacent odd and even lines. A selector 24 cyclically selects odd, even, and interpolated lines in a pre-selected pattern, such as one of the patterns illustrated in FIGS. 1, 7, 8A-F, and 9A-F. By selecting even, odd, and interpolated lines, the number of lines per picture is increased to produce a higher resolution video signal (30).
