Abstract

A novel hydrogenation process, using a homogenous iridium or rhodium catalyst for the reduction of both double bonds of des-(.alpha.-methylbutyryl)-C-8-hydroxy lovastatin and C-8-amino, C-8-alkoxy and C-6-substituted analogs, is disclosed.
