Abstract

Ceramic translucent material mainly comprising densely sintered polycrystalline yttrium aluminum garnet in which between 20 and 1500 ppm by weight of ZrO.sub.2 is added to the yttrium aluminum garnet. When manufacturing an article of such a ceramic translucent material, a thermal treatment is carried out at a temperature of more than 1400.degree. C. in an oxidizing atmosphere after sintering.
