Abstract

This invention encompasses compounds of the formula ##STR1## wherein R.sup.1 and R.sup.2 independently are hydrogen, C.sub.1-4 alkyl, or C.sub.2-4 hydroxyalkyl; one of R.sup.3 to R.sup.7 is --SO.sub.3 H or --COOH; and the remaining of R.sup.3 to R.sup.7 independently are hydrogen, chlorine, C.sub.1-4 alkyl, C.sub.1-4 alkoxy, or --NR.sup.8 R.sup.9, where R.sup.8 and R.sup.9 independently are hydrogen, C.sub.1-4 alkyl, C.sub.2-4 alkoxy, or where --NR.sup.8 R.sup.9 is piperidine, morpholine, piperazine, or pyrrolidone; or a water soluble salt thereof; hair dye preparation containing these compounds, and methods for dyeing hair using such preparation.
