Abstract
Polysilanes having higher molecular weight are prepared in a higher yield by reacting diorganodihalosilanes with an alkali metal at a temperature of at least 150.degree. C. in a medium which comprises a solvent in which the diorganodihalosilane is soluble. Preferred solvents comprise siloxanes, particularly cyclic dimethylsiloxanes.
