Abstract
Cam elements (1), which are to be secured to a shaft to make a built-up cam shaft assembly, have their peripheries ground to the required shape by being supported in alignment with one another and ground by at least one pass of a contoured grinding wheel or wheels along the held cam elements in a direction parallel to the axis thereof.
