Abstract
A graft precursor is formed by preparing a propylene polymer suspension having a propylene polymer suspended in water and a solution having a specific radically (co)polymerizable organic peroxide and a specific radical polymerization initiator dissolved in specific amounts in a vinyl monomer, mixing the propylene suspension and the solution in a specific ratio, heating and stirring the resultant mixture under conditions incapable of inducing substantial decomposition of the polymerization initiator, and further elevating the temperature of the mixture after the total amount of the vinyl monomer, the radically (co)polymerizable organic peroxide, and the radical polymerization initiator has decreased to less than 50% by weight of the initial total amount. Then a graft resin composition is produced by melting and kneading the graft precursor, either by itself or in combination with a propylene polymer and a vinyl polymer, at a temperature in the range of 100.degree. to 300.degree. C. thereby effecting a grafting reaction of the mixture.
