Abstract

Pollutant emissions produced during gas turbine power generation with a fuel gas from coal gasification are reduced by initially cooling the fuel gas to a temperature above the dewpoint but between 200.degree. and 400.degree. C. to condense alkalies on dust grains. In the fuel gas, HCl and HF are adsorbed on calcium carbonate and filtration removes the particulates. The fuel gas is reacted with oxygen in the presence of a carbon containing adsrobent to eliminate sulfur, and the flue gas after combustion is catalytically treated with a carbon containing adsorbent to remove nitrogen and sulfur oxides.
