The invention disclosed provides an effective and comprehensively economic method of cooling the continuous shielding wire fed to the welding rollers of a machine for seam-welding discrete lengths of tube, inasmuch as the wire does not merely pass between the cooled mill rolls but is wrapped around each one to the point of subtending an angle greater than 180.degree..
