Abstract

The invention relates to 2-phosphonobutane-1,2,4-tricarboxylic acid derivatives, which can be obtained by reaction of the tricarboxylic acid with C.sub.6-20 -alcohols and which are suitable as auxiliaries (emulsifiers) for emulsion polymerization.
