Abstract
A tape and slot type optical cable having a core with groove dimensions that hold tape shaped optical fibers and also improve the transmission and mechanical strength characteristics of the optical cable. The dimensions require that for a groove having a depth D.sub.S and a width W.sub.S and a predetermined plurality n of optical fiber bundles of thickness T and width W.sub.T that the equations following equations be satisfied:
