Abstract
A method for reducing the weight gain in an animal by orally administering ver a prolonged period a therapeutically effective amount of dihydroxyacetone to which may be added riboflavin. The method also includes administering dihydroxyacetone and/or pyruvate in therapeutically effective amounts to increase the glycogen store in the liver.
