Abstract

A continuous process for the dyeing of melt-extrudable polymers that are capable of being dyed, is disclosed. The process comprises extruding molten polymer through an orifice, contacting the extruded polymer while still in a molten state with an aqueous solution of a dye for said polymer, and withdrawing the resultant dyed polymer from the aqueous solution. The process may be used for the dyeing of e.g. modified polyolefins, polyamides, ionomers and the like. In preferred embodiments the process may be used in the extrusion coating of wire or other continuous filamentary material to provide color-coded products.
