Abstract

A process for preparing a silver halide emulsion using a sulfur-containing inhibitor which substantially inhibits growth of silver halide grains is disclosed. The sulfur-containing inhibitor is inactivated by addition of an oxidizing agent capable of reducing or eliminating the inhibitory activity of the sulfur-containing inhibitor. By the process, adverse influences of the sulfur-containing inhibitor upon chemical ripening or development can be excluded.
