Abstract

An antioxidant containing a proanthocyanidin which is at least one member selected from the group consisting of those dimers to decimers which have bonded thereto as a structural unit a flavan-3-ol or flavan-3,4-diol represented by the general formula: ##STR1## (wherein R.sub.1 is hydrogen or a hydroxyl group, R.sub.2, R.sub.3 and R.sub.4 are each hydrogen, a hydroxyl group or a methoxy group, and R.sub.5 is hydrogen, a galloyl group or a glycopyranosil group).
