Abstract

A method for securing protective silicone resin coatings to plastics without the use of primers is disclosed. Shock curing a silicone resin coating composition on transparent plastic substrates, such as polycarbonate, at a temperature not substantially below 140.degree. C. is found to give a tough, adherent coating without distorting the substrate or diminishing its optical clarity, and without the use of primers. The suitability, after incorporation into the silicon resin coating composition, of certain silylated ultraviolet light screening compounds for shock curing is also disclosed.
