Abstract

A process for the preparation of high purity 5-chloroisophthaloyl chloride comprises reacting isophthaloyl chloride with liquid chlorine in the presence of a Lewis acid catalyst at a temperature of about 55.degree. Celsius to 80.degree. Celsius under autogenous pressure.
