Abstract
A process for preparing a pentaerythritol-tetrakis(3-alkylthio-propionate) represented by the general formula: ##STR1## wherein R represents an alkyl group having from 8 to 30 carbon atoms, is disclosed, comprising reacting an alkylmercaptan having from 8 to 30 carbon atoms with an acrylic ester or an acrylic amide to form a 3-alkylthio-propionic acid ester or a 3-alkylthio-propionic acid amide, hydrolyzing the ester or amide to form a 3-alkylthio-propionic acid, and then reacting this product with pentaerythritol. The desired product can easily be obtained at high purity and high yield by this process.
