Abstract
Melatonine is obtained by methylating N-acetyl serotonine in the 5-position. Mexamine is obtained by de-acetylating melatonine in a hot alkaline solution containing a water-insoluble alcohol and acidifying the alcohol phase with hydrochloric acid.
