Abstract
The invention relates to a process for the preparation of optionally branched, high molecular weight polyarylene sulphides with melt viscosities which can be established within a defined range and low corrosion. These polyarylene sulphides have been obtained by reacting alkali metal sulphides, if appropriate mixed with alkali metal bisulphides and reaction accelerators, with dihalogenoaromatics and polyhalogenoaromatics, with the addition of monohalogen and monomercapto compounds.
