Enantiomerically pure mono acetal-protected diols of the formula ##STR1## wherein A, B, C and D are hydrogen or a methyl group in any combination, M and N are aliphatic or araliphatic hydrocarbons, m and n are the numbers 0, 1 or 2, whereby the total of m plus n must be the number 1 or 2, their preparation and use for the syntheses of the pheromones (1R-exo)-Brevicomin, (1S-exo)-Brevicomin, (1R-endo)-Brevicomin and (1S-endo)-Brevicomin.
