Abstract

A data insertion device for a recording and reproducing apparatus, which is for example with a video tape recorder (VTR) or the like, which allows one to insert data into a video tape or like recording medium while maintaining the VTR in a playback mode. While sync signals from the VTR are disturbed in the event of insertion of the search data and others, as distinguished from ordinary video data, sync signals provided by sync signal output means which is independent of sync signals provided by the VTR are used as sync signals for the insertion of the search data and others.
