Abstract

A silver halide photographic light-sensitive material and high contrast negative image forming process using them are disclosed. The material comprises a support having thereon at least one silver halide emulsion layer in which said silver halide emulsion layer or other hydrophilic colloid layer contains at least one hydrazine derivative, at least one cationic dye selected from a cyanine dye, a hemicyanine dye and a rhodacyanine dye, and L-ascorbic acid, and has photographic characteristics of giving very high contrast of over 10 in .gamma., giving high practical Dmax and sensitivity, and causing less black peppers using a stable developer and having optimum spectral sensitivity for spectral energy distributions of various light sources.
