Abstract

An aromatic polyamide having a high molecular weight is produced by a polycondensation reaction of an aromatic aminocarboxylic acid and/or a mixture of an aromatic dicarboxylic acid and an aromatic diamine in a polar solvent in the presence of a dehydrating catalyst with heating at a temperature of about 160.degree. C. or higher.
