Abstract

The invention is a flush-head rivet design 10 for joining two or more structural members together. One of the plates 52 incorporates a countersink 55 in the hole therethrough having an included angle 56 of between 99 to 101 degrees. In detail, the rivet 10 comprises a shank portion 12 having a minimum and maximum allowable shank diameter 18. The flush head 14 of the rivet includes a head diameter 23 before forming a land 24 on the edge thereof of between 1.642 times the minimum shank diameter 18 and 1.646 times the maximum shank diameter. The crown 26 has a height 25 between 0.074 time the minimum shank diameter 18 and 0.089 times the maximum shank diameter and a crown radius 27 between 4.334 times the minimum shank diameter 18 and 3.747 times the maximum shank diameter. The underhead surface 32 taper angle 34 is between 104 and 105 degrees. The land width 24 is between 0.007 times the minimum shank diameter 18 and 0.015 times the maximum shank diameter. The minimum head diameter 23' after forming the land 24 is 1.596 times the minimum shank diameter 18.
