Abstract
The compounds of the present invention comprise substituted 1,5-diphenyl-2-pyrrolepropionic acids and derivatives thereof represented by the formula: ##STR1## wherein: R represents hydroxy, alkoxy of from 1 to 6 carbon atoms, inclusive, or amino; R.sup.1 represents hydrogen or acyl of from 2 to 7 carbon atoms, inclusive; and X represents hydrogen, halogen, hydroxy or alkoxy of from 1 to 6 carbon atoms, inclusive. The compounds of the present invention are 5-lipoxygenase inhibitors and, therefore, are useful in the treatment of local and systemic inflammation, allergy and hypersensitivity reactions and other disorders in which agents formed in the 5-lipoxygenase metabolic pathway are involved.
