Abstract

A fluorescent lamp is disclosed which has a glass bulb with a coating layer of phosphor particles on the inner surface, the phosphor particles being covered by a protective layer consisting of a metal oxide. The phosphor particles are not in direct contact with the glass bulb by virture of the protective layer. Thus, it is possible to prevent the reduction of the mechanical strength of the bulb and reduction of the luminuous efficiency of phosphor due to interaction between the glass bulb and phosphor particles.
