Abstract
A novel organic compound usable as a component of liquid crystal compositions having a positive value of dielectric anisotropy and a liquid crystal composition usable as a material for liquid-crystalline display devices operated under a low driving voltage are provided which compound is a benzoic acid ester derivative expressed by the formula ##STR1## wherein R represents an alkyl group of 1 to 10 carbons and X represents ##STR2##
