Abstract

A blood sampling device (10), in particular intended for arterial blood sampling and blood gas analysis, is disclosed. The sampling device is provided with valve means which in the dry state permits expulsion of gas from the sampler reservoir (18), but which automatically closes on contact with blood. The valve means comprises two mating surfaces (21, 26) retained apart by an interlayer of a porous or fluffy fibrous material (22), which collapses on contact with a liquid.
