Abstract
A trash compactor is disclosed which has a wheeled bin within a trash compactor cabinet. The bin is adapted to contain a trash bag and the trash compacted therein and then may be withdrawn partially from the cabinet so that a handle may be inserted downwardly into vertical apertures in the front of the bin. A fixed pin and latches provide a reaction means to secure the handle in a downward position in the bin front, and this also secures the front wheels of the bin in a downward position of a lost motion between the front wheels and the bin. The wheeled bin may then be completely removed from the cabinet and wheeled to the disposal site. The container front may be unlatched and hinged forwardly and downwardly so that the trash bag may be pulled horizontally out of the wheeled bin for ready removal. In the return of the bin into the cabinet, the lost motion on the wheels permits the wheels to be moved upwardly so that the compaction forces are taken between the bin bottom and the cabinet base plate rather than on the wheels.
