Abstract

A method and apparatus for measuring the wall thickness of a workpiece in the form of a half cylinder in which inaccuracies in measurement due to variations in height among workpieces are eliminated. The workpieces are mounted with the inner side fitted around a support member in such a manner that the lower legs of the workpiece are separated from the underlying work table. When the workpiece has been so positioned, upper and lower measuring units are moved into abutment with opposite surfaces of the workpiece. Movements of the measuring units are sensed by respective differential transformers, and a thickness measurement is provided accordingly.
