Abstract
An improved process for the ozonization of .alpha.,.beta.-unsaturated cyclohexanones, most notably isophorone and piperatone, to produce 5-ketoalkanoic acids is provided. For the process, the .alpha.,.beta.-unsaturated cyclohexanone is ozonized in an aliphatic monocarboxylic acid participating solvent which may optionally contain water and a soluble manganous salt.
