Abstract
Disclosed are novel 2-(2,2,2-trifluoroethylsulfonyl)-1H-benzimidazoles represented by formula I ##STR1## wherein R.sub.1 and R.sub.2 are each independently hydrogen, halogen or C.sub.1 -C.sub.2 lower alkyl and nontoxic, pharmaceutically acceptable salts thereof as well as the corresponding trifluoroethylmercapto compounds which are useful as intermediates in making the compounds of Formula I. The compounds of Formula I can be used for the treatment of chronic inflammation and inflammatory diseases such as rheumatoid arthritis.
