Abstract

The present invention relates to neutron-absorbent oxide or oxynitride glasses containing gadolinium and a process for their preparation. The glasses according to the invention, which incorporate silicon, aluminum, oxygen or oxygen and nitrogen, additionally contain gadolinium in a proportion of approximately 5 to 15 atom %.
