Abstract

There is provided a process for the production of aldehydes wherein an oric halide is reacted with carbon monoxide at a superatmospheric pressure in the presence of a hydrogen donor and in the presence of a base and of a catalyst in a solvent system. Catalysts of choice are transition metal catalysts. A preferred temperature range is from about 50.degree. to 150.degree. C.
